Gary Badke’s Fantasy Pathway is a whimsical fantasy land created in the forest. What an imagination and what a lot of time!
A magical few days it was on lovely Gabriola Island. We’re hoping to go back soon.

Last month Kathryn and I went for a four day getaway on Gabriola Island, a 30 minute ferry ride from Nanaimo about 112k north of Victoria. There her nephew has a vacation rental home where we met up with Kathryn’s sister and other family members.
The cabin is right on a little bay so there was ready access to the beach.
The foreshore of much of the island is sandstone with varying sizes of beaches scattered around.
Other than cooking and sleeping, we spent most of our time outdoors blessed by the beautiful weather and a big deck where we ate and hung out. A great place to admire sunsets.
Years ago I heard about and saw photos of the Malaspina Galleries on Gabriola and was excited to have a chance to see it. This is not an art gallery but a spectacular natural rock sculpture just a short walk on the beach from our cabin.
We did some exploring of other beaches around the island. At the south end is Drumbeg Provincial Park, my favourite.
As I mentioned, much of the foreshore is sandstone and there are wonderful natural “sculptures” in the rock rendered by natural forces into wonderful pieces of art.
